UGC Co-ordination Committee

Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women (Autonomous), Madurai -2 affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University has been a channel of priceless wealth to numerous girl students since 1965. As Thirukural 393 professes,

“ Only the learned have their faces adorned by two eyes

For the ignorant, eyes are no more than sores.”

this only government girls college in Madurai District caters to the educational needs of the rural women folk mostly first generation learners that hail from all the villages situated in a km radius. As a seat of education, it has opened the eyes of such needy girls by helping them acquire and internalize knowledge and wisdom and empower them with the skills required in the Job market.

Our college was included in Section 2 (F) on 01.01.1966 and added under 12 (B) on 17.06.1972. The Autonomous Status was conferred on 26 February 1998 and being an autonomous institution the college with its teaching fraternity keenly upholds the stakeholders’ demands through its academic vision. Our college is proud to serve as an autonomous institution holding on to the autonomous status , adhering to the motto and vision , shifting from curriculum-based syllabus to outcome-based syllabus.

The UGC Co-ordination Committee of the college serves as a coordinating body between the UGC and the College for receiving developmental grants from UGC to the college and for enhancing the academic activities of the college.

UGC Co-ordination Committee prepares and forwards the proposals for grants to UGC, so that developmental and financial assistance during the plan period could be obtained by the college. The grant facilitates the college to augment the infrastructure, purchase books, journals, equipments, and conduct career oriented seminars, Minor & Major research projects and promote innovative strategies for the welfare of the institution, ensuring higher standards of teaching and learning process.
