The Library has a wide collection of 76,000 Books / Ready reference collections like, Encyclopaedias, Yearbooks, Handbooks, Almanacs, Dictionaries, and Thesaurus, etc. Apart from books 5 Newspapers and 25 Periodicals are subscribed. 163 CD’s and DVD’s, Theses and Dissertations, Old and Revised Syllabi, and Question Banks, etc. are updated. SMGAC Central Library has a separate collection for students who prepare for competitive examinations like Civil Service Examinations, Bank and Railway Competitive Examinations, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET), Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), Teachers’ Recruitment Board Examination (TRB), National Eligibility Test for Lectureship (CSIR/UGC NET), State Eligibility Test for Lectureship (SET), etc. are available in the library. Apart from the main Central Library, there are 15 Department Libraries (Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Applications, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Home Science, Economics, History, Commerce, and Business Administration) to facilitate reading within the departments under the guidance of Faculty members.
“User Orientation” Programme given to the First Year UG / PG Students every year to know about the facilities and services available in the Library. Students are allowed to retain their borrowed books for semester Examinations. Approximately 4000 users who are visited/consulted the Central Library per semester.
DDC – Dewey Decimal Classification method is followed to classify and arrange books on the shelves.
OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) is an online database of all of the resources held in the library. Dedicated Static IP address used for accessing OPAC, Dspace@SMGAC, smgacw.irins.org, etc., Our library Static IP address is 117.200.78.30:5000(Intranet Access 192.168.1.30:5000) (Internet Access 117.200.78.30:5000). Users can search OPAC to locate books in the library. It lists the number of the items, whether they are in the library or checked out on loan. The search for a document through OPAC is very easy if the name of the author/title/call number is known to the user. Keyword searching has the flexibility to allow the user to create simple searches.
