Dr T Sumathy aka Thamizhachi Thangapandian is a Tamil writer, English Professor and a Member of Parliament. She has nineteen publications including collections of poetry, essays and interviews to her credit. Birthing Hut and Other Stories is her first collection of short stories. Paralympian

Deepa, an athlete who has represented India in the field of sports in the past 20 years and has won gold, silver and bronze medals in many international games. Even though her left leg was affected by polio, she was very interested in sports since her school days.

For the first time, in 2002, she participated in the International Paralympic Badminton Championship held in Bangalore and won two silver medals in singles and doubles. She won a gold medal in discus throw and a silver medal in shot put in the same international competition.

In 2004, she won two bronze medals in the shot put and discus at the International Paralympic Games held in Belgium. She has participated in international level athletics competitions held in many countries such as Para Olympics held in Germany in 2005, Asian Games held in Malaysia in 2006 and won silver and bronze medals. Meanwhile, she has won gold and silver medals in national level athletics competitions. She has won more than 50 medals in international athletics competitions for disabled people.
