In order to motivate and encourage women to enter into civil services, the government of Tamil Nadu established two free coaching centers, one at Queen Mary’s College(A) Chennai and the other at Sri Meenakshi Govt Arts College(A) Madurai. These centers were started in 2001.
Every year 60 women students are selected through an entrance exam and interview. The entrance exam is based on the pattern of the IAS preliminary exam. Every year the advertisement calling for applications appears in leading newspapers around the month of July.
The selected candidates are given rigorous coaching for six to eight months. There is a well-equipped library with more than 3000 volumes. Training is given by former IAS officers and highly experienced subject experts.
Successful trainees from this center have entered IAS / Tamil Nadu Group I / Group II / Group IV / Banking / VAO Services.
