About the Department

The Department of Tamil was established in the year 1966. In addition to offering part-I Tamil to all the students of the undergraduate programme, the Department also offers B.A., Tamil & M.A., Tamil.  B.A Tamil is being offered since 1966 and M.A Tamil is being offered since 2013. The Department has been upgraded as a research department in the academic year 2017-18 and now M.Phil and Ph.D., Programmes also being offered.

Faculty members are Ph.D., holders and 8 faculty members have been approved by the MKU as Research guides. Publishing research articles in leading national & international Journals and Participating in National & international conferences and seminars have been a regular feature of the department.

Empowering young Women Through Tamil Language and Literature. Empower women by developing human skills through Tamil language and Literature based on human values making them responsible citizens who can work for the progress of women towards a good family, Society and nation .citizens who can work for the progress of women towards a good family, Society and nation.  To energize young women towards Academic and cultural excellence through Tamil Heritage. To Awaken their Social awareness and eco-consciousness.To enable them excel as responsible citizens with religious harmony to save our integrity.
