Department of English
The Department of English, the pride of the Institution, has been part of it, ever since its inception and has a rich heritage of 50 years of service in teaching English at the Part II level. It looks with pride at the accomplished track record set over years by the enthusiastic faculty members. For the aspirants and the competitors, the Part II classes were the only exposure to learn English. With an aim of imparting knowledge through holistic education and to make the students independent and responsible citizens of the society by introducing Literature of other nations, the department launched its UG programme in the year 1969 when the demand for learning English was more the II shift UG programme was started in the year 2007.

Realizing the need of the Post Graduate course to the students of higher-level understanding and to prepare them for competitive examinations like TNPSC, UPSE, CAT, SLET, NET, etc. the PG programme was launched in the year 1990. Research widens and deepens one’s knowledge in a subject. Any department without research activity would be considered an incomplete one. To fulfill that our department has been upgraded as a research department with the introduction of the M.Phil program in the year 2013 by the strenuous efforts are taken by Dr. P. kalaichelvi, Head of the Department of English. At present in 2018-19 batch, there are 8 M.Phil research scholars.

Vision & Mission

The English Department envisions students who become increasingly independent Learners across the Three years of the undergraduate course, Two years of post-graduation and, One year of M.Phil, We envision students who gain confidence in themselves and express their ideas clearly and boldly, who are tolerant to others, who are seekers and creators. We envision students who grow in understanding of their own discipline within their broader contexts of liberal studies and of global cultures. Ultimately we envision students who are empowered by their education to interact effectively and usefully in their society. Our Mission is to Develop increasing sophistication with reading, writing and speaking, Develop and increasing knowledge and understanding of historical, theoretical and cultural contexts. Develop the ability to research carefully and thoughtfully. Develop an understanding of the concepts, contexts and practices of the discipline.
